The Chargers trailed 23-20 with 7:44 remaining in the first half when the team went on a 12-3 tear to close out the first half and take a 32-26 advantage. Guard Joe Clinton* (Pearl River, N.Y.) and Ethan Smith, Jr. (Nyack, N.Y.) both buried three point buckets during the run, while freshman Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y.) netted the first half's last basket to give DC the six point lead.
Clinton and Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) each had six points in the first half and combined for five rebounds.
Dominican never lost the lead throughout the first 15 minutes of the second frame, although the Cougars used a trey with a little over nine minutes to play to knot the contest at 41-all. Clinton followed with his fourth three point basket of the night and Charles completed five unanswered Charger points with two free throws to give them a little breathing room and make the score 46-41 with 7:22 on the clock.
Caldwell would rally and take their first lead,47-46, of the second half on a tip in with just over four minutes remaining. 11 seconds later, senior Glenn Scalia (River Vale, N.J.) hit a three and Irvin followed to put DC in the lead for good at 51-47 en route to the 61-59 victory.
Clinton led Dominican with 15 points.
Irvin came off the bench to net 13 points and grab a team leading eight rebounds.
With the win, Dominican improves to 6-12 overall and 5-4 in the CACC.
