Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/19/15) The Dominican College men's basketball team participated in a basketball mini-camp with the Boces Bombers Special Olympics team on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center at Dominican College today.
The event was organized through the Rockland County Council for Exceptional Children. The team aided in an assortment of drills, contests and basketball related activities with the Bombers. A highlight of the mini-camp occurred while team members of the Chargers and Boces Bombers participated in a shooting and layup contest to conclude the day. The event was a great way for the Boces Bombers to interact and learn from the members of the collegiate team who therefore gained a great experience as the hosts. After the activities both teams joined each other for pizza and refreshments as a reward for the hard work on both sides. The Boces Bombers mini-camp was an exciting event for both teams and was an excellent way for the Chargers Men's Basketball team to give back to the community. Special thanks should go out to Jackie Curtiss and John Warner for the active participation from the Bombers.
The Boces Bombers are a Special Olympics team from Rockland County in New York that supports individuals with developmental disabilities to participate in basketball, soccer, floor hockey and track and field.
The Rockland County Council for Exceptional Children is an organization composed of undergraduate and graduate Teacher Education students from Dominican College and St. Thomas Aquinas College. The Rockland CEC coordinates events and spreads awareness for individuals with special needs.
