CHARGERS BASKETBALL FALL ON DAY TWO OF ALASKA INVITATIONAL
Fairbanks, AK (11/20/09) The Dominican College men's basketball team fell on day two of the Alaska Invitational, 65-47 to the Vulcans of the California University of Pennsylvania this evening at the Patty Center.
Fairbanks, AK (11/20/09) The Dominican College men's basketball team fell on day two of the Alaska Invitational, 65-47 to the Vulcans of the California University of Pennsylvania this evening at the Patty Center.
The Chargers opened up game with a 5-0 run and led 11-6 with 13:57 left in the first half when the Vulcans clawed back with an 8-0 run to take an 12-11 lead. A basket from senior forward Zach Huston (Johnson City, NY) tied the game at 13-13 but Cal U went into the intermission with a 31-24 lead.
The Vulcans opened up the second half with a 6-0 run and never looked back as they led by as many as twenty-four points in the second half en route to the 65-47 victory.
Dominican outshot the Vulcans 51.3% (20-39) to 44.9% (22-49). Cal U had the advantage from the charity stripe shooting 20-23 (87.0%) to the Chargers 5-8 (62.5%).
Huston led the Chargers with 14 points. Senior Marquis Reddick (Trumbell, CT) came off the bench to score eight points and freshman point guard Leon Porter (Laurel, MD) netted seven points.
Jamell Cromartie (White Plains, NY) contributed a team leading four assists in the loss, while freshman Cory Quimby (Middletown, NY) grabbed a team leading six rebounds and scored four points.
With the loss the Chargers fall to 1-1 on the season.
Dominican is back in action tomorrow as they take on Bloomfield College in a non-conference game at the Alaska Invitational.
