CHARGERS FALL TO PANTHERS
Garden City, N.Y. (3/24/26) The Dominican University New York baseball team fell in non-conference action to host, Adelphi University, 18-10, this afternoon in a game played at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
Following the loss, the Chargers are now 10-11 on the season.
Sophomore centerfielder Erick Diaz led the game off with a solo home run for the early lead and Diaz added to the lead in the top of the third as he produced an RBI double to give the Chargers a 2-0 lead.
AU rallied with two runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 2-2, DUNY countered with three runs in the top of the fourth on a two-run double to left centerfield by shortstop Fraelyn Rosario and an RBI single up-the-middle off the bat of Byron Arias to regain a 5-2 lead.
The Panthers answered with a four-run fifth inning to take a 6-5 edge, but the Chargers got the run back in the top of the sixth on a throwing error to make the score 6-6.
Adelphi scored five runs in the sixth and four runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 15-6 lead. Dominican scored four runs in the eighth as Diaz hit his second home run of the game, this one a three-run shot over the field field fence and later pinch hitter, AJ Giannetti, hit a run-scoring single to left field to cut the deficit to 15-10.
AU scored three runs in their half of the eighth inning to make the score 18-10.
Rosario went 4-4 in the game with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Diaz finished the day, going 3-4 with two runs scored and five RBIs.
Starting first basemen Chad Falcon also had three hits in the loss.
Reliever Nicholas Cabello took the loss.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow as they host Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. Game one is slated for a 12pm start.
