EIGHTH INNING RALLY LIFTS CHARGERS OVER COUGARS
Caldwell, N.J. (3/19/26) The Dominican University New York baseball team took on the Cougars of Caldwell University in a CACC contest from Kiwanis Oval in Caldwell, N.J.
The Chargers rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to break a 5-5 tie which propelled them to the 8-5 win and improved to 8-10 overall and 4-3 in the CACC. After the loss, the Cougars fall to 1-12 on the season.
Dominican jumped in front in the third inning after Erick Diaz scored on a wild pitch and then Kevin Hirsch singled in the second run of the inning for the 2-0 lead.
The Chargers added another run on a wild pitch in the fourth inning before Diaz extended the lead to 4-0 on a sac fly.
After CU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, Davin Keddell-Tuckey hit an RBI-single in the top half of the fifth inning to extend the DU lead to 5-1.
The Cougars fought back to tie the game at 5-5 after Justin Levine hit a solo homer in the fifth inning before adding a three-run homer in the seventh inning to tie the game.
The Chargers rallied in the eighth when Erick Diaz ripped and RBI-double to put DU ahead and later scored on a fielder's choice. AJ Giannetti capped off the rally with an RBI-single to extend the Charger lead to 8-5 which would be the score.
DU starting pitcher John Stoliker tossed five innings and allowed two earned runs. Jeuriz Polanco saw 1.1 innings of action and Kenny Dominguez picked up the win in relief on 2.2 innings.
Giannetti led the way with three hits while Diaz, Hirsch, Keddell-Tuckey, and Juan Peralta each finished with two hits.
The Chargers return home to Clover Stadium this Saturday when they host Lincoln University for a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 AM.
