North Wales, Pa. (3/14/26) The Dominican Univeristy New York baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, Chestnut Hill College in games played today at Hostelley Field.
CHC won the opener, 13-11, while the Chargers took the nightcap, 22-6.
With the split, Dominican now stands at 6-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Game One: The Chargers opened the game by scoring a run on a Griffin error for the early lead. CHC countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first, but Dominican regained the lead in the top of the second as sophomore Erick Diaz hit a two-out solo home run over the right field fence.
Chestnut Hill scored three runs in the second and three runs in the third to push ahead, 7-2 and held DUNY scoreless until the top of the fifth when catcher AJ Giannetti produced a two-out two-run single to centerfield to cut the lead to 7-4. The Griffins got a run back in the sixth frame to make the score 8-4, but the Chargers added two more runs in the seventh on the two-run double to left center off the bat of designated hitter Kevin Hirsch to cut the deficit to 8-6.
Dominican took the lead in the eighth as they scored five runs on three home runs. Diaz got things going with his second home run of the game, this time a two-run homer over the centerfield fence. First basemen Chad Falcon followed with a solo shot to left centerfield and third basemen Byron Arias hit a solo home run to left center field to give DUNY an 11-8 lead.
CHC countered with a five-run bottom fo the eighth stanza for the 13-11 lead and eventual win.
Diaz had two hits and three RBIs in the loss, while Falcon and Arias finished with two hits a-piece. Arias also recorded two RBIs, along with Giannetti and Hirsch.
Reliever Robert Liriano suffered the loss.
Game Two: The Dominican offense scored 22 runs on 17 hits in the night cap to earn the 22-6 victory.
Diaz went 3-5 with four runs scored and four RBIs, while Jaden Maia also went 3-5 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Falcon was 3-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs with Hirsch going 4-6 with four RBIs.
Shortstop Fraelyn Rosario collected two hits and three RBIs in the win.
Diaz hit two home runs in the game with Falcon, Maia and Hirsch all hitting a home run.
Reliever Jeuriz Polanco picked up the win.
Dominican completes the season series with the Griffins tomorrow when they host the team in a single game at Clover Stadium.
