Cary, N.C. (2/28/26) The Dominican University New York baseball team split a double-header today with the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown in games played at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
With the split, the Chargers are now 1-2 on the season
Game One: A Kevin Kirsch double in the top of the first inning got DUNY on the scoreboard for the early lead. They added a run in the second on a RBI single by Byron Arias for the 2-0 advantage.
The Mountain Cats' got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but a three-run fifth rebuilt a 5-1 lead. Davin Keddell-Tuckey delivered a two-run triple down the right field line and Jean Nunez later drew a bases loaded walk.
Dominican scored five runs in the sixth stanza on a RBI single up-the-middle off the bat of Keddell-Tuckey and a grand slam by catcher Antonio DiGrigoli to increase the lead to 10-1. The Mountain Cats' countered with a six-run bottom of the sixth for the evenutal 10-7 score.
Keddell-Tuckey went 3-4 in the game with three RBIs, while DiGrigoli finished with a team best four RBIs in the win. Three other Chargers had two hits each.
Starter Samuel Herrera earned the win in five innings of work, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six batters.
Game Two: In the nightcap, the Chargers scored three runs in the third inning on a run-scoring single by Arias and a two-run homer run off the bat of Jaden Maia.
Pitt-Johnstown used a five-run fifth inning to claim the lead and added a run in the sixth to earn the 6-3 victory.
Catcher AJ Giannetti had two hits for the Chargers
Luis Rivera took the loss in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow tomorrow morning when they take on West Chester University.
