Newark, Del. (5/8/25) The #1 seed in the north division Dominican University New York Chargers fell in both games of the first day of the 2025 CACC Baseball Double Elimination Tournament.
The #2 seed in the south division Wilmington University defeated the Chargers by a score of 22-8 giving them a spot in the winner's bracket tomorrow while sending the Chargers into the loser's bracket where they would take on north division rival Felician University in a win or go home contest.
The #2 seed in the north division Felician University defeated the Chargers 14-3 and moved onto the second day of the tournament.
Game One: The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead over the Chargers scoring nine runs over the first three innings.
Two runs in each of the fifth, sixth, and ninth innings while six runs in the seventh and one in the eighth secured the victory for the Wildcats.
Kevin Hirsch and Erick Diaz combined for five of the nine DU hits in the loss. Hirsch homered twice while Diaz added three hits and dove in one RBI.
Ryan Bongiorno and Byron Arias each recorded an RBI while Evan Amato doubled.
DU starting pitcher Luis Rivera fell to 8-2 on the season as he went 2.2 innings and suffered the loss.
Game Two: The Golden Falcons eliminated the Chargers from the tournament with a 14-3 victory in the do or die game three of the day.
Felician jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and added one run in the top of the second.
RBI-groundouts by Hirsch and Diaz in the first and second innings cut the Golden Falcon lead to 4-2. Felician added two more runs in the fourth inning to push their lead to 6-2.
An RBI-single by Arias cut the deficit back to three runs but the Golden Falcons scored eight runs over the final two innings on their way to the 14-3 win .
Diaz and Jaden Maia each finished with two hits including doubles. David Knepper also added two hits while Bongiorno, Ian Labrador, and Juan Peralta each added one hit.
Starting pitcher Anthony Leak threw 7.1 innings while surrendering nine runs and suffered the loss.
