Pomona, N.Y. The Dominican University New York baseball team completed a four game series sweep of CACC north division rival Post University this afternoon at Clover Stadium.
The Chargers complete their conference schedule with an overall record of 34-15 and a CACC record of 28-8.
Today was a special day for the baseball program as they recognized their graduating seniors. Dominican honored seniors: #0 Alexander Reyes, #5 Ty Gilligan, #7 Stefano Libio, #11 Joseph Coppola, #18 Anthony Nigro, #19 Anthony Leak, #23 Ryan Bongiorno, #24 Tyler Richman, #35 Isaiah Figueroa, and #43 Robert Liriano.
Game One: Dominican won a wild marathon of a game to open the doubleheader by a score of 20-18.
Both teams combined for 39 hits and 38 total runs with 24 combined runs scored between the seventh and eighth innings.
The Chargers led 12-2 heading into the seventh inning. Post rallied for eight runs to cut the deficit to two.
The Chargers answered with their own seven run inning in the bottom half of the seventh inning to regain a 19-10 lead.
The Eagles answered again with another eight run rally in the top of the eighth as they fought their way back into the game for the second consecutive inning.
Dominican added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning to push the lead to 20-18 and the Chargers closed out the win on a double play in the ninth.
David Knepper and Erick Diaz combined for eight RBIs as they drove in four each. Diaz went 3-4 with a double while Knepper had team-high four hits including a double.
Jaden Maia and Ty Gilligan each homered in the win. Maia drove in three runs while Gilligan drove in two. Ian Labrador finished with three RBI's while Juan Peralta and Bongiorno each added one.
Starting pitcher John Stoliker recorded the victory on the mound for the Chargers to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Game Two: The Chargers completed the two game sweep and the series sweep with a 13-8 victory in game two.
Senior pitcher Anthony Leak tossed six innings and earned four strikeouts as he recorded his seventh win on the season.
Dominican found themselves down 5-0 early and fought back with a huge eight run rally in the second inning to take the lead which they kept the rest of the way.
Gilligan homered for the second time of the day going 2-4 with two RBIs. Labrador went 3-4 with an RBI while Byron Arias finished 2-4 with three RBIs.
Bongiorno finished 2-4 while Maia added a double and Diaz added a triple.
The Chargers return to action on Tuesday for their regular season finale against Molloy University from Clover Stadium.
