Waterbury, Conn. (4/25/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team opened their four game series with CACC north division rival Post University with two wins.
Dominican downed the Eagles by a score of 10-3 in game one before completing the sweep with an 8-6 win in eight innings.
The Chargers, #9 in the NCBWA East Region Poll, improves to 32-15 overall and 26-8 in conference play.
Game One: Dominican charged past the Eagles in game one by a score of 10-3.
The Chargers jumped out in front in the second inning scoring the game's first run and extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
The Eagles got on the board in the bottom half of the third inning but the Chargers rallied for five runs in the fifth inning highlighted by an RBI-double by Jaden Maia and then RBI-singles by Kevin Hirsch, Ty Gilligan, and Ryan Bongiorno.
Louis Rivera earned his seventh win of the season after throwing a solid seven innings allowing one run on six hits and struck out six Eagle batters.
Vincent Giambona pitched two innings in relief.
Hirsch finished 4-5 including two doubles and drove in three RBIs. Gilligan also finished with three RBI's and went 2-4. Byron Arias and Bongiorno each picked up RBI's.
Game Two: The second game saw a back and forth affair with the Chargers earning the come from behind victory in eight innings.
Dominican took a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in each of the first two innings. Post rallied for three runs to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Both teams traded a run each in the fifth inning and then DU tied the game in the sixth on a David Knepper RBI-single.
Dominican regained the lead in the top of the seventh after a sac fly by Hirsch and an RBI-groundout by Juan Peralta.
Post came back in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings after manufacturing two runs on RBI-groundouts.
Back to back RBI-singles by Erick Diaz and Maia gave Dominican the lead back in the extra frame.
Jedadiah Trudeau earned the win in relief. Tanner MacLean started on the mound in game two earning two strikeouts over five innings. AJ Mitchell pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
The Chargers continue their four game series with the Eagles on Sunday afternoon from Clover Stadium.
