Caldwell, N.J. (4/17/25) The Dominican University New York baseball team completed the season sweep of Caldwell University this afternoon after defeating the Cougars, 19-9 and 13-8, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played at Kiwanis Oval.
With the sweep Dominican improves to 29-14 overall and 23-7 in conference play.
Game One: The Chargers scored runs in the first five innings to take a commanding 16-5 lead. Dominican added three more runs in the seventh, while Caldwell scored four runs in the eighth for the final 19-9 victory.
Second basemen Ryan Bongiorno went 4-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs, while Erick Diaz added three hits, scored three runs and three RBIs.
Kevin Hirsch, Evan Amato, Juan Peralta and David Knepper had two hits a-piece in the win, including a two-run homer.
Starter John Stoliker earned the win in four and 2/3 innings of work and had three strikeouts.
Game Two: Dominican scored a run in the top of the first as Diaz led off the game with a solo homerun for the early lead.
Knepper added to the lead with an RBI single to right field for the early 2-0 advantage, but Caldwell countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 3-2 edge.
The Chargers tacked on nine more runs as designated hitter Hirsch blasted a three-run homerun to left centerfield, Evan Amato and Knepper hit back-to-back RBI singles and Bongiorno hit an RBI double down the left field line for a 6-3 lead. Knepper later scored on a wild pitch and Diaz hit his second homerun of the game, this time a two-run shot to centerfield for a 11-3 lead.
Dominican added two more runs in the sixth on Hirsch's second homerun of the game and an RBI single to right field off the bat of Knepper for the 13-3 lead and win.
Knepper went 3-4 and three RBIs in the game, while Hirsch went 2-5 with four RBIs. Diaz went 2-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
Starter Luis Rivera picked up the win in five innings of work and collecting eight strikeouts.
Dominican returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Holy Family University.
