Pembroke, N.C. (5/27/21) Dominican College baseball player, Joshua Colon, has been named to the 2021 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-American Third Team as was announced yesterday.
This is Colon's first NCBWA All-American accolades as he is one of two players from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) to earn the honors. Tavis Brunson of Caldwell University was named to the Second Team.
Colon, a senior shortstop from the Bronx, N.Y., earns his seventh post season honors as he was previously named the 2021 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year, along with being named to the All-CACC First Team, the 2021 Division II National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Player of the Year, the NCBWA All-East Region First Team, the D2 Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) East Region Player of the Year and the D2CCA All-East Region First Team.
He has led the Chargers to a 19-13 record, the program's 18th (CACC) Championship and the No. 6 seed in the NCAA East Regional Championship. Colon is batting .412 (47-114) in 31 games, while slugging eight home runs, racking up 37 RBI and scoring 30 runs. He has slashed .496/.825/1.321 and pounded out 25 extra-base hits. The shortstop has also made just three errors in 98 total chances for a .969 fielding percentage. He has hit safely in 25 contests, including 10 straight from April 24-May 2. Colon ranks second in the CACC in home runs, triples (6) and total bases (94), third in batting average, slugging, hits and doubles (11), fifth in RBI, seventh in OBP, and 12th in runs and walks (16). Nationally, Colon is seventh in triples, 19th in slugging and 32nd in batting.
