Pomona, N.Y. (4/28/15) The Dominican College baseball team beat the visiting Bears of Bloomfield College, 12-3, this evening in non-conference action played at Provident Bank Park. With the win, the Chargers improve to 19-20 on the season.

The Bears scored a run in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly ball hit to left field for the early 1-0 advantage.
Dominican tied the game in the third inning as shortstop Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) hit an RBI triple to straight-away center field and Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) brought him home on a single through the right side to give the Chargers a 2-1 lead.
An RBI single by the Bears re-tied the game in the top of fifth, but Dominican responded with a three-run bottom stanza to re-claim a 5-2 advantage. One run scored on a wild pitch and later two more scored on a Bear fielding error.
DC added to the lead in the sixth with an RBI single to center field off the bat of left fielder Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.) to extend the lead to 6-2. Three more runs scored on a Bear fielding error to make the score 9-2.
Three runs in the seventh for the Chargers gave them a 12-2 lead. Jonathan Martinez (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) had an RBI single to right field and two batters later Alonso recorded an infield single to plate a run. The final run of the stanza came on the single to left field from Lopez.
A sacrifice fly ball hit to left field in the ninth by Bloomfield made the final 12-3 score.
Alonso finished the night with three hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs.
Lopez had a career high five RBIs in the win and added two hits, along with Gray.
Starter Franklin Miller (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) got the win (2-3) in five innings of work, allowing two rusn (one earned) on four hits and seven strikeouts.
The Chargers are slated to return to non-conference action tomorrow as they travel to the University of New Haven.
