BASEBALL GETS ONE AGAINST UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES
Philadelphia, Pa. (4/19/15) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, University of the Sciences, in games played today at Richie Ashburn Stadium. Dominican won the opening game, 8-4, but fell in the game two, 8-6.

Philadelphia, Pa. (4/19/15) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, University of the Sciences, in games played today at Richie Ashburn Stadium. Dominican won the opening game, 8-4, but fell in the game two, 8-6.
Following the split, Dominican now stands at 13-8 overall and 10-8 in CACC play.
Game One: The Devils held a 3-0 lead through three innings, when the Chargers charged back with six runs in the fourth stanza to claim a 6-3 lead. In the fourth, center fielder William Seymour (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) got the scoring started with an RBI single to left field. Third basemen Mark Vargas (Bronx, N.Y.) followed with his first collegiate home run over the left field fence to plate three more runs. An RBI single off the bat of Jonathan Martinez (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) brought home the fifth DC run of the inning and Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.) followed with an RBI bunt single for the 6-3 lead.
USCI got a run back in their half of the fifth inning, but Dominican added two more in the ninth for the 8-4 win. In the ninth, Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) delivered a two-run double to center field.
Lopez went 3-5 with two RBIs.
Seymour and Donald Crispyn (Freeport, N.Y.) each had two hits, while Vargas had a team leading three RBIs.
Nathanial Popiel (Mechanicville, N.Y.) improved to 2-3 in a seven inning performance, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits and four strikeouts.
Corey Pic (Montvale, N.J.) picked up his fourth save of the season in 1 2/3 innings of work, recording two strikeouts and not allowing a hit.
Game Two: Dominican took a 1-0 lead in the third on the infield RBI single from Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) and added a run in the fourth on the run scoring single to left center field from J. Martinez.
The Devils took the lead for good with a four-run fourth stanza. The Chargers cut the lead to 4-3 in the sixth on the RBI hit to right center off the bat of catcher Bryan McGuire (Herkimer, N.Y.).
A three-run bottom of the sixth and a run in the seventh gave USCI an 8-3 lead. Dominican scored a run in the eighth on the RBI double to right center from J. Martinez and two more in the ninth on an RBI double to left center from Lopez and Lopez would later score on a passed ball for the final 8-6 score.
J. Martinez and McGuire each had three hits in the loss, with J. Martinez adding two RBIs.
Andrew Morano (Clintondale, N.Y.) took the loss (1-3) in four innings of work, allowing four runs on eight hits.
