CHARGERS SPLIT WITH CONCORDIA COLLEGE
Pomona, N.Y. (4/17/15) The Dominican College baseball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Clippers of Concordia College in games played this afternoon at Provident Bank Park. Dominican won the first game, 5-4, but fell in the second game, 11-6.

Game One: The Clippers struck first after scoring a run in the first inning on a wild pitch. The Chargers re-tied the game in the bottom stanza as center fielder William Seymour (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) reached base on a fielder's choice which allowed a run to come home.
Concordia scored two runs in the third and added one in the fourth to regain a 4-1 lead. DC got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth as Jonathan Martinez (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) grounded into a bases loaded double play that allowed a run to score and shortstop Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to right field to make the score 4-3.
Dominican tied the game at 4-all in the sixth inning on a run-scoring single up-the-middle off the bat of second basemen Donald Crispyn (Freeport, N.Y.).
The game-winning run was scored in the bottom of the ninth as Mark Vargas (Bronx, N.Y.) delivered an RBI ground out which allowed J. Martinez to come home and give DC the 5-4 win.
Crispyn went 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Corey Pic (Montvale, N.J.) picked up the win to improve to 3-0 on the season in 1/3 inning of relief.
Starter Anthony Pastrana (Queens, N.Y.) went 8 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and 10 strikeouts.
Game Two: Concordia scored a run in the top of the first inning, but the Chargers anwered right back in the bottom stanza as they put three runs on the board. Alonso got things going with an RBI single to right center field and first basemen Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) followed with a run-scoring single to center field. Seymour came to the plate next and produced an RBI triple to left center field to give DC a 3-1 advantage.
The Clippers tied the game at 3-all in the fourth inning, but DC regained a 4-3 lead in the fifth as J. Martinez stole home. Concordia re-tied the game with a run in the seventh inning, but Dominican countered with a two-run bottom of the seventh to pull ahead 6-4. In the seventh, Alonso hit a one out two-run double to right field.
Concordia score two runs in the eighth to tie the score and added five runs in the ninth for the 11-6 win.
Andrew Morano (Clintondale, N.Y.) suffered the loss (1-2) in 1 1/3 innings of work, allowing two runs on three hits and one strikeout.
Starter Peter Martinez (White Plains, N.Y.) went seven innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and five strikeouts.
Alonso went 4-5 with one run scored and three RBIs.
Lopez had two hits, while J. Martinez scored three runs.
With the split, Dominican now stands at 11-17 overall and 8-6 in CACC play.
