CHARGERS ADVANCE IN CACC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Norristown, Pa. (5/3/14) The Dominican College baseball team, the fifth-seed, won a single-elimination game against the fourth-seeded Griffins of Chestnut Hill College, 9-5, this afternoon in a game played at Latshaw-McCarthy Field. With the win, Dominican advances to the double-elimination portion of the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships where they will face #1 Wilmington University.

CHC struck for a run in the bottom of the first, but DC answered with a run in the top of the second on the two-out RBI double to center field off the bat of Luis Paniagua (Manhattan, N.Y.). The Griffins regained a 2-1 edge in the bottom of the inning.
DC re-tied the game in the top of the third as Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.) hit a ground ball to the shortstop which brought home a run. The Chargers took their first lead of the afternoon in the fourth inning as senior Kyle Hall (Nassau, Bahamas) hit two-out run scoring single to left field for the 3-2 lead.
The score was tied at 3-all after six innings of play when the Chargers put three runs across the plate in their half of the seventh inning. Jayson Gray (New Rochelle, N.Y.) came home on a throwing error as Jonathan Martinez (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) stole second. A fielder's choice off the bat of senior Tyler Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) brought home a second run and Leonardo Bravo (Bronx, N.Y.) doubled to left field to make the score 6-3.
CHC scored two runs in the eighth to cut the lead to 6-5, but DC scored three insurance runs in the ninth for the final 9-5 win. Carlos Lopez (Miami, Fla.) hit a two-run double to center field and the third run scored as Paniagua reached on an error.
Senior pitcher Ryan Calby (Huntington Station, N.Y.) got the win (6-2) in 7 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts.
Anthony Pastrana (Queens, N.Y.) got his first save of the season after pitching the last 1 2/3 innings.
Dominican improves to 21-22 on the year.
DC advances to the double-elimination part of the tournament and will take on the top seed and current #1 in the East Region, Wilmington University. The game will be played this Thursday at 8:30 am at Wilmington University.
