CHARGERS BEAT MOLLOY COLLEGE

Pomona, N.Y. (4/30/14) The Dominican College baseball team beat the visiting Lions of Molloy College, 9-7, yesterday in non-conference action played at Provident Bank Park.

Pomona, N.Y. (4/30/14)  The Dominican College baseball team beat the visiting Lions of Molloy College, 9-7, yesterday in non-conference action played at Provident Bank Park.

The Lions led 4-1 after three innings of play, but the Chargers charged back with runs in the fifth and sixth stanzas to go ahead 6-5.  In the fifth, DC scored two runs on wild pitches and the sixth saw a run come home on a bases loaded walk and a two-run single to center field off the bat of shortstop Robert Alonso (Hurley, N.Y.).

MC regained the lead with two runs in the top of the eighth, but Dominican answered with a three-run bottom stanza to go up, 9-6.  Alonso recorded this third RBI of the game with a single through the left side and senior catcher Tyler Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) later followed with a two-run single to center field.

The Lions scored the last run of the game in the top of the ninth for the final 9-7 score.

Alonso and Jonathan Martinez (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) each finished with two hits, while Kyle Hall (Nassau, Bahamas) scored three runs.

Ryan Calby (Huntington Station, N.Y.) picked up the win in two innings of relief to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Freshman Corey Pic (Montvale, N.J.) got his first save of the year.
