2024 Athletics Hall of Fame Program
Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/1/24) Dominican University New York inducted six individuals into the Dominican University New York Athletics Hall of Fame this past Friday, September 27th. The Hall of Fame honored its 29th class of inductees.
Kathleen Broderick '76, will be honored as the 24th Hall of Famer in the service category. She will be inducted alongside baseball player, Justin T. Moore '12, softball player Julie Plante '13, men's lacrosse player Korin Pierce '12, men's golfer Keith Prokop '14 and men's basketball player Nicholas Smith '15. This class of honorees will increase the membership into the Dominican University New York Athletic Hall of Fame to 117 individuals (23 service members and 94 athletes) and 15 teams.
The 29th Annual Dominican University New York Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and reception was held in the Granito Center on the campus of Dominican University New York.
Moore, a four-year member and captain of the Charger baseball team is the program's all-time leader in saves. During his time at Dominican, he was an All-Conference, All-Region and All-American selection, along with being a two-time Rawlings/ABCA NCAA Division II Gold Glove Team honoree. Moore led the nation in 2009 with 17 saves and was named the CACC Rookie of the Year.
Plante, a four-year member and two-year captain of the Lady Charger softball squad, was a three-time All-CACC First Team honoree, a two-time Capital One Academic All-District Softball First Team selection and a two-time Capital One Academic All-America selection. Plante earned two All-Region accolades in her career and was named the CACC Tournament MVP in 2012. She is the All-Time leader in Lady Charger history in hits (294), doubles (59) and runs scored (175). Plants ranks second all-time in RBIs (147), sixth in home runs (21), tied for seventh in triples (9) and is ninth in career batting average (.383).
Pierce, a four-year member of the men's lacrosse team led the team in assists and was second in points in his senior year. He ranks seventh all-time in Charger Lacrosse history in goals (70) and points (112), while sitting eighth in assists (42).
Prokop won four collegiate events and one Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Individual Championship in his time as a student-athlete. After graduation, he took over as the head coach of the men's golf team and within three hears, he led the Chargers to the school's first-ever NCAA Super Regional Championship and the school's first-ever appearance in an NCAA Championship Tournament. Prokop earned two CACC Coach of the Year honors and his team's won two CACC Tournament Championships during his time at the helm.
Smith, a four-year member and team captain of the men's basketball team, was a two-time All-CACC First Team honoree and a two-time Daktronics All-Region selection. He ranks ninth all-time in program history in points.
Broderick was on the front line of positive change for people with disabilities; she wasinstrumental in the development of Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs) as a more humane way of providing residential services to people with disabilities. She worked tirelessly to help reduce the number of institutional Developmental Centers and large 12 and 14-bed Community Residences (CRs) to make it easier to provide person-centered services to those with disabilities.
