DOMINICAN VOLLEYBALL UPENDS BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (10/7/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team upended the visiting Deacons of Bloomfield College, 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 26-28, 25-22) this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division clash held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (10/7/10) The Dominican College women's volleyball team upended the visiting Deacons of Bloomfield College, 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 26-28, 25-22) this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division clash held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Tied 23-23 in the first set, the Lady Chargers got a kill from sophomore Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) and took advantage of a Bloomfield set error at set point for the 25-23 victory.
Trailing 19-17 in the second set, Dominican went on a 5-2 run to take a 22-21 lead and extended the run with another three straight points for the 25-18 set win and 2-0 match lead.
Bloomfield jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set three and held a 23-20 advantage when the Lady Chargers answered back with four consecutive points to take a 24-23 lead. Later tied at 26-26, a Deacon kill and a DC attack error gave BC a 28-26 win and cut the deficit to 2-1.
The fourth set saw the game tied at 18-18, DC pulled ahead 24-22 and used a Fiorvanti kill to secure a 25-22 set win and 3-1 match victory.
Fiorvanti led all attackers with a season high 23 kills. Setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) added 13 kills and a season high 53 assists, while Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) added 11 kills in the victory. Libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) led the team with 14 defensive digs.
Following the victory Dominican improves to 10-12 overall and 7-2 in the CACC, while Bloomfield falls to 4-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
DC is back in action on Saturday when they travel to CACC foe, University of the Sciences for a 1pm match.
