WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL BEATS CALDWELL COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (10/15/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team revenged a loss earlier in the season to the visiting Caldwell College Cougars by defeating them 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20) this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (10/15/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team revenged a loss earlier in the season to the visiting Caldwell College Cougars by defeating them 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20) this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The first set was a close knit battle as the teams were tied 18-a piece when the Lady Chargers went on an 7-5 run en route to the 25-23 set win.
Dominican trailed 20-15 in the second set when freshman libero Jordyn Fuller (Keller, TX) served five straight points to give DC a 21-20 advantage. Tied again at 22-22, the Lady Chargers took advantage of two Cougar attack errors and one kills for the 25-22 set win and 2-0 match lead.
Trailing by a point in the third set, the Cougars went on a 7-1 run, led by four service points by Elise Lennon (Secaucus, NJ) and three by Kathleen Estes (Lyndhurst, NJ) to take a 12-7 lead. Dominican answered back as freshman setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) had four service points to pull within one, but Caldwell retailated with an 8-4 run to rebuild a 20-16 lead and never looked back as they went on to the 25-21 win.
The Cougars held a 12-10 advantage in the fourth set, only to see the Lady Chargers eventually tie the set at 13-13. Tied 17-17, a 3-0 spurt by DC game them a 20-17 lead and the never looked back as they outscored Caldwell, 5-3 for the 25-20 set win and 3-1 match victory.
The Cougars were led by junior Cory Roesing (Secaucus, NJ) with 10 kills, while adding 12 digs. Junior Justine Pecora (Clifton, NJ) added sevn kills, while Titilola Alao (Ossining, NY) and Keesha Francois (Elkins Park, PA) each had six kills in the loss. Setter Lauren Roth (Findlay, OH) had 35 assists, while Maddy Amon (Shelbyville, KY) led the team with 16 digs.
Freshman Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) led three Lady Chargers in double figures with a match leading 16 kills. Teammate Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) had 13 kills and Kristen Loney (Pine Bush, NY) added 11 kills. Ranger had a match leading 39 assists, while Fuller had a match leading 20 digs.
With the victory Dominican improves to 16-8 overall and 10-3 in the CACC, while Caldwell falls to 11-10 overall and 9-2 in the CACC.
The Lady Chargers return to the court on Saturday in CACC action as they travel to Wilmington University.
