2007 Dominican College Men's Soccer Season Summary
The Dominican College men's soccer team finished with an overall record of 11-3-5 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 8-0-1. After winning their fourth consecutive CACC Regular Season Title, the Chargers earned the top seed in the CACC Tournament.
2007 Dominican College Men's Soccer Season Summary
The Dominican College men's soccer team finished with an overall record of 11-3-5 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 8-0-1. After winning their fourth consecutive CACC Regular Season Title, the Chargers earned the top seed in the CACC Tournament.
With a first round bye, Dominican faced the fourth seeded Holy Family University Tigers and suffered a tough 1-0 loss to end the Chargers quest for a fourth straight CACC Tournament Title and third straight berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Jhonny Arteaga led the team with 16 goals and six assists for a total of 38 points. He netted six game winning goals and led the conference in shots (78), points (38), points- per-game (2.0), goals (16) and game-winning goals (6). He ranked second in the CACC in shots per game (4.11), assists (6) and third in assists per game (0.32). He was named the CACC Player of the Year and First Team Selection, to the Daktronics Division II All-New England Region First Team, the Daktronics Division II Men's Soccer All-America First Team and to the NSCAA All-New England Region First Team.
Senior keeper, Robert Kelly, was also a CACC First Team Selection, CACC All-Tournament Team and a Division II Daktronics All-New England Second Team. He led the conference in goals against average (0.69), save percentage (.857), fifth in saves (84), ninth in saves per game (4.42), third in shut outs (6) and fifth in shut outs per game (0.32).
Fellow senior Joe Ruesgen and sophomore Joe Wright were also All-CACC First Team selections. Ruesgen received Daktronics Division II All-New England First Team, while Wright was named to the Second Team. Junior Diego Barahona was named to the CACC All-Tournament Team.
Head Coach John Campbell was named the CACC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career.
The 2007 men's soccer team will graduate eight players, including five starters. Coach Campbell is confident with a strong recruiting class, the 2008 Chargers will once again return to the CACC Tournament Championship Game and to the NCAA Tournament.
