2012 Dominican College Volleyball Summary
The women’s volleyball team had their most successful season in program history as they went undefeated in conference play, won their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Regular Season and Tournament Championships and earned the program’s first NCAA East Regional Tournament appearance. The Lady Chargers finished the season with an overall record of 26-8 and a perfect CACC record of 19-0.
The Lady Chargers were the top overall seed of the tournament and the top seed from the North Division. DC went 3-0 in the CACC Tournament after topping the University of the Sciences, Philadelphia University and Wilmington University all by scores of 3-0 to earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA East Regional Tournament.
In the East Regional, the Lady Chargers fell to the top-seeded and eventual East Region Champions, the University of New Haven, 3-0.
Freshman Tori Dexter led the team in kills (322) and kills per set (2.78) this season. She was named the CACC Rookie of the Year and to the All-CACC First Team. Dexter earned two CACC Rookie of the Week and one Player of the Week honors this season.
Senior libero Jordyn Fuller earned her second consecutive All-CACC First Team accolades, leading the team for the third consecutive year and finishing second in the conference in digs (599). She also led in the conference in digs per set (4.95). A three-year captain, Fuller also received American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II East All-Region Honorable Mention accolades and was named to the CACC All-Tournament Team.
Fellow senior, setter Whitney Ranger, led the team and ranked third in the CACC in assists (1090) and assists per set (9.16). She was named to the All-CACC First Team, to the Daktronics Division II Women's Volleyball East All-Region Second Team and to the CACC All-Tournament Team.
Seniors Courtney Heard and Michelle Fiorvanti finished second and third on the team with 242 and 238 kills, respectively. Both received All-CACC Honorable Mention accolades. Heard also earned one CACC Player of the Week honors this season. Fiorvanti was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the CACC Tournament.
Head Coach Stefanie Carrington, in her fifth season at the helm of the Lady Chargers was named the CACC Coach of the Year for the second time in her career.
Dominican will lose seven players, Fiorvanti, Fuller, Heard, Danielle Johnston, Kristen Loney, N’Jameh Philip and Ranger to graduation this season.
