Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/8/16) The Dominican College women's soccer team upended the visiting Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 2-1, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the DC Soccer Field.
Both teams played a scoreless first half of play with the Lightning having the 4-1 advantage in shots and Dominican having the 3-2 edge in corner kicks for the half.
The Lady Chargers got on the scoreboard in the 50th minute as senior Leanne Lavelle (Washingtonville, N.Y.) netted her first goal of the year on a long hit from the right side.
DC added to the lead at the 86:22 mark when sophomore midfielder Jenna Gray (Pine Bush, N.Y.) tallied her fifth score of the year.
GBC would net the final goal of the game in the 88th minute for the final 2-1 score.
The Lightning had the 16-7 lead in shots and the 10-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Lady Charger keeper Angelica Contreras (Baytown, Texas) made 10 saves in the victory.
Dominican (4-7, 4-3 CACC) will travel to Philadelphia University this coming Monday afternoon.
