Blauvelt, NY (10/19/06)          The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team defeated the Dominican College Lady Chargers 2-0 this afternoon at the DC Soccer Field.

The Purple Knights got on the board late in the first half as junior Therese Petersson (Lulea, Sweden) hit the lower left corner of the goal off the pass by Melanie Fernandes (Southbury, CT) to take a 1-0 lead.

UB added to the lead when Sofia Hoflin (Ostersund, Sweden) converted a penalty kick at 85:20 to take a 2-0 lead.

DC keeper Valentina Sturchio (Stewartsville, NJ) had nine saves in the loss, while UB keeper Amanda Roche (Nova Scotia, Canada) had three saves.  UB out shot DC 23-4.

With the win, Bridgeport improves to 14-5 on the year, while Dominican falls to 6-10-2.

The Lady Chargers are back on Monday in the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament to be played at either Post University or Georgian Court University at 2pm.
