Albany - Sophomore fullback Alaina Lange (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) scored her first collegiate goal which turned out to be the game-winner as The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team defeated Dominican, 3-0, in a non-conference match-up at Varsity Field Monday.
The seventh-ranked Golden Knights (9-0) earned their fourth shutout in a row after a stifling defense failed to surrender a shot in the match. Saint Rose finished with a 15-0 advantage in shots and held a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
Lange's goal came just 10 minutes into the contest after the Golden Knights earned a corner kick. Senior midfielder Alexandra LaFite (Greenbrae, CA/Redwood) served a ball towards the far post that Lange volleyed into the back of the net to start the scoring.
Junior midfielder Tara Padula (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) came off the bench to give Saint Rose a 2-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining until halftime. Padula collected a pass at the top of the penalty box from junior midfielder Alyssa Walbrecht (Norwich, NY/Unadilla Valley) and consequently beat Lady Charger goalie Valentina Sturchio (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillipsburg) after dribbling by a defender.
Sophomore midfielder Deanna Wachtel (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) closed out the scoring for the Golden Knights in the 61st minute when she beat Sturchio far post after collecting a long pass over the defense from senior fullback Kylee Litchfield (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial).
Sturchio played all 90 minutes between the posts for Dominican (2-7-1) and finished with six saves. Junior keeper Lauren Steinberg (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) and freshman keeper Shannon Murphy (Charlton, MA/St. Peter Marian) did not need to make a save while combining for the shutout.
Saint Rose travels to Bentley Wednesday for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 4:00 pm, while the Lady Chargers play host to Dowling at 3:30 pm Thursday.
