Hillburn, N.Y. (3/29/14)  The Dominican College women's lacrosse team won their first game of the 2014 season after charging past the visiting Eagles of Post University, 20-8, today in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.

Sophomore midfielder Christina Brennan (Washington Township, N.J.) sparked the Lady Chargers offense with a season high four goals on the day and added one assist for a total of five game points.

Allison Smithwick (Commack, N.Y.) added three goals and an assist, while Amber June (Stony Point, N.Y.) and senior Traci-Joan Muniz* (Middlesex, N.H.) also tallied three goals each.

Gina Sparaco (Freeport, N.Y.) and Haliann Fitzgerald (Walden, N.Y.) both scored two goals and had one assist in the win.

Emily Murray (Oakdale, N.Y.) had a team leading three assists and recorded one goal, while Katie Dascher (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Shayne Gallagher (Blauvelt, N.Y.) each netted a goal with Gallagher adding an assist.

Goalie Brittany Kiernan (Clarkstown, N.Y.) made six saves.

Dominican began the contest with an 8-1 run in the first ten minutes to pull ahead 8-1 and closed out the half with four unanswered goals to take a 15-7 lead.

DC went on to outscore their opponents, 5-1 in the second half for the 20-8 win.

With the win, the Lady Chargers improve to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
