2012 Dominican College Women’s Lacrosse Season Summary

 
 

The Dominican College women’s lacrosse program finished with an overall record of 6-9 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 6-6.  The Lady Chargers set a new team season records in goals scored and assists this season and just missed a CACC Tournament berth as they finished in fourth place.

 

The highlight of the season for the Lady Chargers was a 21-13 win over Georgian Court University, which was their first program victory over Lions.

 

Rookie attacker Allison Smithwick had an outstanding freshman year, leading the team in assists and total points and finishing second in goals scored.  She was named the CACC Rookie of the Year for her efforts and earned one CACC Rookie of the Week and Player of the Week accolades.  She was also named the ECAC Rookie of the Year and was tabbed the ECAC Player of the Week once.

 

Sophomore midfielder KC Jentzen was the top scorer for the Lady Chargers this season.  She finished second on the team in total points and was named to the All-CACC First Team.  Jentzen also earned one CACC Rookie of the Week honors.

 

Junior Michelle Fiorvanti was named to the All-CACC Second Team for the second straight season as a key member of the Lady Charger defense, along with sophomore Olivia Antonopoulos who was also named to the Second Team.

 

Senior Aubree Williams received All-CACC Honorable Mention honors for the second consecutive season.  She finished in a tie for third on the team in goals and third points.  Freshman Gina Sparaco also tied for third on the team in goals.

 

Veronica Iozzi spent 15 games in the Lady Charger net, making 100 saves.  Teammate Dominique Labate played in seven games with 12 saves.

 

Captain Elizabeth Schmidt was one of the inductees to the Dominican College New York Sigma Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, while Smithwick received the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award.  Senior Carla Gimm was honored with the Coach’s Award, along with receiving the Lady Charger Award.

 

The team graduates three seniors this season (Gimm, Heather Wannamaker and Williams), but with the return of a veteran roster, the Lady Chargers should have a very promising 2013 season.
