2010 Dominican College Women’s Lacrosse Season Summary
The Dominican College women’s lacrosse program finished with an overall record of 6-8 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of 5-7. The Lady Chargers set a new program record for wins in a season and picked up their first conference win in program history with a 13-12 win over Chestnut Hill College.
DC finished in fifth place in the CACC and just missed a playoff berth in the conference tournament. However the team, under second year Head Coach Taryn Brechbiel, set many new team season records this year. The team scored 161 goals this season, 57 assists and 125 caused turnovers, which are all improvements from the 2009 season.
Sophomore midfielder Aubree Williams led the team for the second straight season with 37 goals and tied for first with 12 assists for 49 points in playing all 14 games this year. She finished 6th in the CACC in scoring and seventh in points per game and shots per game. She was named to the All-CACC Second Team for her efforts.
Juniors Silje Karlsen and Sarah Kiernan also had great 2010 campaigns and both were named to the All-CACC Second Team. Karlsen finished second on the team in goals, points, caused turnovers and assists. She led the team in ground balls and draw controls. She ranked seventh in the CACC in goals per game, ninth in points per game and fourth in draw controls per game. Kiernan finished fourth on the team in goals and tied for first place in the CACC in game-winning goals. She also finished fourth on the team in points, third in ground balls, fourth in draw controls and third in caused turnovers.
Freshman attacker Elizabeth Schmidt also earned All-CACC Second Team honors. She recorded 12 goals in 14 games to finish fifth on the team in scoring. She tallied six assists for a total of 18 points, with 20 ground balls, 36 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers. She finished second on the team in draw controls and tied for second in caused turnovers. She finished fifth in the CACC in draw controls per game.
Junior Amanda Matos, finished the season third on the team in both goals and points. She received All-CACC Honorable Mention honors, along with senior defender Amanda Miller.
Senior goalie, Lindsey Grundfast, tallied 139 saves and finish the year with a .440 save percentage. She ranked 3rd in the CACC in save percentage and 2nd in saves per game.
The 2010 Lady Chargers lacrosse program had the most successful season in program history and with a strong core of veteran players returning in 2011, the team should see just as much success as they did in 2010.
