WOMEN'S LACROSSE LOSES TO GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (4/8/10) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team lost to Georgian Court University, 19-8, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) lacrosse action at the DC Lacrosse Field.
Orangeburg, NY (4/8/10) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team lost to Georgian Court University, 18-7, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) lacrosse action at the DC Lacrosse Field.
GCU opened the game with three straight goals but the Lady Chargers charged back with two unaswered goals off the sticks of Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) on a free position shot and Kimberly Nunez (Fair Lawn, NJ) to cut the deficit to 3-2 with 17:33 remaining in the first half.
The Lions roared back with a 4-0 run to take a 7-2 lead before Nunez recorded her second goal of the game off the assist from freshman Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) to make the score 7-3. A second 4-0 run by Georgian Court made the score 11-3 at the intermission.
GCU opened the second half with their fifth unanswered goal to take a 12-3 lead before DC went on a 2-0 run with goals from Sarah Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) off another free position shot and one from Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) off the pass from Fiorvanti to cut the Lion lead to 12-5.
Georgian Court put the game away with a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 18-5 but Kiernan and Williams each netted their second goals of the game with Fiorvanti picking up her third assist of the game to make the score 18-7 with 7:49 remaining in regulation. GCU closed out the scoring with a goal with 3:49 left in the contest for the final 19-7 score.
Lady Charger goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) had 10 saves in the loss.
With the loss Dominican falls to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the CACC.
