2009 Dominican College Women's Lacrosse Season Summary
The Dominican College women's lacrosse program competed in the inaugural season of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play and finished the season with a 3-10 record. The Lady Chargers set a new school record for wins in a season with two victories of Holy Family University and a non-conference victory over Kean University.
The team set many new team season records this year under first year Head Coach, Taryn Brechbiel. The team scored 151 goals this season, 41 assists, 236 ground balls, 424 shot attempts, 101 caused turnovers and three game winning goals, which are all improvements from the 2008 season.
Freshman Aubree Williams, the 2009 CACC Rookie of the Year, led the team with 44 goals and 16 assists for 60 points to set new single-season school records in playing all 13 games this year. She finished 4th in the CACC in scoring and points per game, seventh in assists and shots per game, She was also named to the All-CACC First Team and received the 2009 Dominican College women's lacrosse Most Valuable Player award.
Sophomore Amanda Matos, finished the season second on the team in both goals (36) and points (37). She was named to the All-CACC Second Team. Fellow sophomore Silje Karlsen was also named to the All-CACC Second Team after finishing fourth on the team with 23 goals and second with nine assists for a total of 32 points. She also ranked 3rd in the CACC in draw controls per game (3.31)
Junior defender Amanda Miller was also named to the All-CACC Second Team and ranked 5th in the CACC in ground balls per game (2.46). Junior Ashley Ordemann finished third on the team with 25 goals this season.
Lindsey Grundfast, a junior goalie, once again started every game in the net for Dominican this year. She had 185 saves on the season to set a school record for saves and finish the year with a .456 save percentage. She ranked 6th in the CACC in save percentage and 2nd in saves per game (14.23).
The 2010 Lady Chargers will return a strong nucleus of players that Brechbiel hopes will compete for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship.
