Orangeburg, N.Y. (1/5/19) Sophomore guard Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) netted a career high 29 points in leading the Lady Chargers to a 76-65 victory over the visiting Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, Dominican improves to 5-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
CHC scored the opening basket of the contest, but Dominican 17-7 run, capped off by a trey from sophomore Guerra put the Lady Chargers ahead 17-9 with 3:15 to play in the quarter. Teammate Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.) would close out the quarter with a three-point basket to give them a 20-13 lead.
In the second quarter, senior Alpreshia Parker (Pocono Summit, Pa.) hit a jumper which would give Dominican their biggest lead of the game, 29-15 with 6:47 left before the break. A five-point closing run by the Griffins cut the deficit to 34-28 at the half.
Guerra powered the Lady Charger offense in the second half as she erupted for 21 points, going 4-5 from the three-point arc, tallying two two-pointers and five shots from the charity stripe.
Guerra led all scorers with her career high 29 points and added three rebounds and three steals.
Junior Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) contributed 12 points, while Parker and Latimer finished with 10 points each.
Foward Samantha McClutchy (Washington Township, N.J.) grabbed a team high 10 rebounds.
Senior Ciera Rivera, along with Jade Harrell (Kingston, N.Y.) and Parker each had five rebounds in the win.
Dominican shot 41.7% (25-60) from the floor, 47.6% (10-21) from the three-point arc and 80% (16-20) from the free throw line for the game.
The Lady Chargers return to action next Tuesday night when they travel to Caldwell University.
