WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LOSE TO SAINT ANSELM COLLEGE AT SAINT ANSELM HOLIDAY CLASSIC

Manchester, NH (12/30/09) The Dominican College women's basketball team lost to the Hawks of Saint Anselm College, 52-47 this evening in the final game of the 2009 Saint Anselm Holiday Classic.
The Lady Chargers jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the first half as senior guard Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) hit a three point bucket. Leading 12-7 with 12:04 left before the break the Hawks went on a 5-0 run to knot the contest at 12-12. A trey by sophomore guard Kaity Lent (Vineland, NJ) gave DC their biggest lead of the half, 27-18, with 5:38 remaining in the half. A 9-1 spurt by the Hawks closed out the first half with the game tied at 28-28.
Saint Anselm started the second half just like how they ended the first half, this time with an 9-0 run to take a 37-28 advantage. The Hawks increased their lead to twelve points, 44-32, with 10:25 to go when the Lady Chargers charged back to outscore the Hawks 13-2 over the next 6:13 to cut the deficit to 46-45.
A three point basket by Saint Anselm rebuilt a four point lead and they never looked back en route to the 52-47 victory.
Sainten led all scorers with 19 points on the night, shooting 7-15 from the floor and tallied five rebounds. Lent came off the bench to net nine points (3-3 from the three point arc), while sophomore Marley Klunk (York, PA) came off the bench to grab a game-tying 10 rebounds in the loss.
For her play over the last two days, Sainten was named to the All-Tournament Team.
With the loss Dominican falls to 6-5 overall.
The Lady Chargers return to action on January, 7th when they host Bloomfield College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Coach Baxter Court. Game time is set for 6pm at the Hennessy Center.
