LADY CHARGERS BASKETBALL FALL IN NON-CONFERENCE GAME

New Haven, CT (12/12/09)  Despite outscoring Southern Connecticut State University, 39-36 in the second half, the Lady Chargers fell to the host, 71-67 this afternoon in a non-conference game held at the Moore Field House.

The Owls opened the first half with an 11-3 lead with just over 14 minutes remaining in the first half and led by as many as 11 points with 2:02 left before going into the break with a 35-28 lead.

With the Owls leading by 12 points with 4:20 the Lady Chargers charged back with an 13-2 run to cut the deficit to a point, 68-67 with 0:27 seconds left in regulation.  With Dominican forced to foul, the Owls converted three of five free throws to close out the game with the 71-67 victory.

Senior guard Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) exploded off the bench for Dominican to lead the Lady Chargers with 22 points.  Sophomore Meghan Murphy (Carmel, NY) netted 15 points, while senior forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) added nine points and six rebounds in the loss.  Rookie Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY) had a nice outing with eight points and a team leading seven caroms.

The Owls had four players in double figures led by senior Jacqueline Johannes (Southbury, CT) with 16 points.

With the loss Dominican falls to 4-3 on the season.

The Lady Chargers are back in action next weekend at the ECAC Holiday Classic hosted by Caldwell College.  DC will take on East Stroudsburg University on December 19th at 12pm and will face Le Moyne College on December 20th at 12pm.
