HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY TIGERS BEAT DOMINICAN LADY CHARGERS

Orangeburg, NY (1/9/10) The visiting Tigers of Holy Family University defeated the Dominican College Lady Chargers, 43-66 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The Lady Chargers had an early 8-3 lead in the first half, but the Tigers roared back with an 7-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. DC tied the game at 15-15 with 10:50 left in the first stanza but a 12-2 spurt by Holy Family gave them a 27-17 lead and they cruised into the half with a 34-23 lead.
The Tigers continued on the offensive in the second half extending the lead to 31-57 with 10:20 to go in the contest and never looked back en route to the 66-43 victory. Holy Family shot well from the floor 25-59 (42.4%) compared to the Lady Chargers 16-61 (26.2%).
Dominican was led by freshman guard Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY) with 14 points and five rebounds. Senior Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) added nine points, while Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) contributed seven points and a team leading six assists in the loss. Sophomore Marley Klunk (York, PA) came off the bench to grab a team leading five rebounds.
Holy Family was led by sophomore Lauren Peters (Doylestown, PA) who had a game leading 18 rebounds and tallied six assists and six caroms. Senior Christine McCollum (Abington, PA) poured in 13 points and seven rebounds, while junior Catherine Carr (Bedminster, NJ) added 11 points and six rebounds. Erin Mann (West Chester, PA) came off the bench to net 10 points and six rebounds in the victory.
With the victory Holy Family University improves to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday, January 19th when they travel to CACC rival, Nyack College, for a 6pm game at Bowman Gymnasium.
