WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RALLIES TO DEFEAT BLOOMFIELD COLLEGE

Orangeburg, NY (1/7/10)  The Dominican College women's basketball team rallied from a three point deficit at the intermission to defeat Bloomfield College, 70-61 this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

The Deacons held a 15-9 lead with 11:54 remaining in the first half when Dominican charged back with 11 unanswered points to take a 20-15 lead.  Bloomfield regained a 29-27 advantage with just under three minutes to go in the half and went on to outscore DC 4-3 to hold a 33-30 lead at the intermission.

Tied 43-43 with 11:05 to go in the contest, the Lady Chargers went on a 13-2 run over a span of five and a half minutes to take a 56-45 lead and never looked back en route to the 70-61 victory.

Milani Malik (Brooklyn, NY) led the Deacons with 15 points off the bench, shooting 6-12 from the floor.  Dre'Shonda Williams (Piscataway, NJ) netted 13 points, while Emily Horrocks (Milford, CT) scored 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.

Dominican was led by senior guard Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) with a game leading 27 points (7-8 from the floor, 2-2 from three and 11-11 from the charity stripe) and seven rebounds.  Freshman Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY) added 15 points, while sophomore Marley Klunk (York, PA) tallied seven points and five caroms off the bench in the victory.

With the win Dominican improves to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in the CACC, while Bloomfield falls to 2-8 overall and 2-1 in the CACC.

Dominican is back in action on Saturday when they host Holy Family University in CACC women's action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
