Head Coach John Burke Earns 100th Career Win

Nyack, NY (11/16/07) Dominican College defeated Bentley College 55-40 this evening in the opening round of the Fairfield Inn Classic held at Nyack College. Bentley came in to this game ranked #7 in the nation in the NCAA division II. The game was the first for both teams as Dominican improves their record to 1-0 and Bentley drops to 0-1.
Dominican took a 31-23 lead into halftime by holding Bentley to 30% shooting from the field. Dominican shot 42% from the field including 3-5 from the 3-point arc. In the second half the Chargers got even better as they held Bentley to 20% shooting and only gave up 17 points. Meanwhile they shot 43 % from the field as they went on to win by 15. Dominican also out rebounded Bentley 42-38.
Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) led the Chargers with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) chipped in with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Kristy McLean led Bentley with 12 points and 6 rebounds while Vanessa Lux added 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The University of Bridgeport defeated Nyack College in game two of the Fairfield Inn Classic, 80-62. UB improves to 1-0 on the year while Nyack falls to 0-1.
Bridgeport took a 38-32 lead into halftime as the two teams battled back and forth. The second half was a different story as Bridgeport shot a scalding 59% from the floor while holding Nyack to 35% shooting for the half. For the game UB shot 50% and Nyack shot only 36% including 4-20 from behind the arc.
Shannon Malone led 5 players in double figures for Bridgeport with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Sydney Parsons had a double double with 13 points and 12 assists. Stephanie Darden had 14 points, Linda Durmen Blunt had 11, and Monique Ross added 10. Tamyra Lathon led Nyack with 19 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. Christy Porter added 13 points and 6 rebounds, while Kaarina Stearns came off the bench to score 10.
UB will face Dominican tomorrow at 2pm and Nyack will face Bentley at 4pm.
