#1 DOMINICAN LADY CHARGERS ADVANCE TO CACC TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINALS

Blauvelt,  NY (3/1/08)  The top seeded in the North Division Dominican College Lady Chargers advanced to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament semi-finals after defeating the fourth seeded Warriors of Nyack College, 78-64 this afternoon on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.

The Warriors opened up the game with a 5-0 run to take an early lead and led 12-6 with 14:13 to go.  DC picked up the pace and exploded for a 17-1 run to take a 23-13 lead, highlighted by Rachelle Sainten's (Spring Valley, NY) back to back treys.  Dominican netted 15 points off Nyack turnovers to take a 39-30 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, Dominican held a 56-40 lead with just over ten minutes to go when the Warriors put together an 11-3 run to cut the deficit to 59-51 with 7:07 left in the game.  The Lady Chargers built the lead back up to 70-53 on a three point play by junior Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) and cruised to the 78-64 victory.

DC was able to score 26 points off Nyack turnovers, while the Warriors netted 14 points.  Nyack shot well from the line, going 23-25 (92.0%) in a game that had a total of 29 fouls.  DC shot 32-65 from the floor (49.2%) and 3-6 (50.0%) from the charity stripe

Nyack was led by senior guard Tamyra Lathon (Temple Hills, MD) with 21(11-11 from the foul line) points, three assists and three steals Guard Christy Porter (Highland, NY) netted 12 points, while Kaarina Stearns (Spring Valley, NY) netted 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.   Sarah Sauer (Grand Rapids, MI) had a team leading seven rebounds.

Dominican had three players in double figures, led by Sainten's 23 points off the bench.  Senior guard Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) finished with 15 points (3-5 from three point land), six rebounds, a game leading seven assists and three steals, while forward Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) scored 13 points.  Chambers finished with nine points and a game leading eight rebounds.  

With the win, Dominican improves to 21-7 overall and advances to the CACC semi-finals, while Nyack ends their season and 10-17 overall.

The Lady Chargers are back in action on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the CACC Tournament where they will take on the South Division's second seeded Wildcats of Wilmington University.  Game time will be 7pm on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
