WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS SECOND STRAIGHT TO AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE
Blauvelt, NY (2/7/08) The American International College Yellow Jackets held host Dominican College Lady Chargers to their lowest point total this season with a 54-37 victory in a non-conference basketball game on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
AIC went on a 9-3 run with just under eight minutes left in the first half to take a 26-14 lead. After a three point basket by sophomore Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ), DC trailed nine but Mirlande Francois (Miami, FL) hit a jumper with 3:33 left to give the Yellow Jackets a 28-17 lead. AIC shot 42.9% from the floor and controlled the boards, 28-11, holding Dominican to their lowest first half total this season.
The Yellow Jackets started the second half with a 6-0 run to take a 34-17 lead at the 14:47 mark and held on to a double digit lead the rest of the way.
Dominican struggled on the floor, shooting just 7-28 (25.0%) in the first half and 8-33 (24.2%) in the second for a combined 15-61 (24.6%) for the game. They shot 4-21 (19.0%) from three point land and were just 3-9 (33.3%) from the charity stripe.
AIC shot 20-54 (37.0%) from the floor and 12-15 (80.0%) from the free throw line in the win. They dominated DC on the boards, out rebounding them, 57-29.
The Lady Chargers were led by Laskowski with 12 points, three assists and three steals. Senior Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) and Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) had six points each and combined for seven rebounds.
AIC had two players with double-doubles as Alexis Castro (Cula Vista, CA) led all scorers with 16 points and 14 caroms. Stacy Boisvert (Agawam, MA) netted 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Francois finished with 11 rebounds.
With the win AIC improves to 12-9 overall, while Dominican falls to 16-6 overall.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they
travel to Post University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
(CACC) women's basketball action. Game time is 1pm at the
Drubner Center.
