Dominican College Goes Undefeated at the DC Tip-Off Tournament
Blauvelt, NY (11/18/06) Dominican College improved to 2-0 with a 84-46 victory over Concordia College in the second round of the DC Tip Off Tournament in game two action this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Earlier, Dowling College defeated Nyack College 80-50 to improve to 1-2 on the year.
Dowling College and Nyack College Each Go 1-1
Blauvelt, NY (11/18/06) Dominican College improved to 2-0 with a 84-46 victory over Concordia College in the second round of the DC Tip Off Tournament in game two action this evening on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. Earlier, Dowling College defeated Nyack College 84-50 to improve to 1-2 on the year.
Dowling took charge of game one early as they jumped out to a 32-11 lead with 7:57 remaining in the first half off a lay up by Denice Froham (Manhattan, NY). They held on to a 21 point lead, going into the half up 48-27.
The second half saw much of the same as Dowling continued to control the game. Nyack cut the lead to 62-38 but that was as close as they would get as Dowling cruised to a 80-50 victory.
The Lions were led by Shanasia Franklin with 13 points, while Janika Sundstrom added 11 points and Kasia Valtakari contributed 10 points in the win. Teelah Grimes (Middletown, NY) had a solid game with eight points and nine rebounds, while Natasha page (Queens, NY) had seven points and a team leading nine rebounds.
Nyack was led by freshman Kelsey McIntosh (North Pole, AK) with a game leading 17 points. Sophomore guard Kaarina Stearns (Spring Valley, NY) had the game's only double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Diona Graham (Cleveland Heights, OH) had nine points off the bench for the Warriors
With the loss, Nyack drops to 1-1 on the year.
In game two action, the lead see sawed back and forth early in the first half until Dominican 11-0 run in the final six minute of the half to take a 39-26 lead into halftime.
The second half was all Dominican as they built a 62-37 lead with 11:07 left in the game on a lay up by senior Jackie Tracey-Spitaleri (Bronx, NY). The Lady Chargers continued to dominate the game as the lead 844-44 with 1:35 to go. Jocelyn Martin (Nesconset, NY) netted the game's final bucket with 0:55 left en route to the final 84-46 victory for Dominican.
The Lady Chargers had four players in double figures, led by Tracey-Spitaleri with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists. Junior Dana Rotio (Garfield, NJ) and Rachelle Sainten (Spring Valley, NY) each had 12 points and a combined 10 boards, while freshman Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) contributed 11 points in the win. Senior Beth DePalo (Rumson, NJ) had nine points and a game leading eight rebounds. Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) came off the bench to net seven points and seven rebounds.
The Clippers were led by freshman Danielle McLaughlin (Staten Island, NY) with a game leading 18 points. Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) and Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) each had seven points in the loss.
With the loss, Concordia falls to 0-3 on the season.
