SOFTBALL SPLITS TWIN BILL WITH LE MOYNE COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (3/18/11) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-header with Le Moyne College this afternoon in games played at the DC Softball Field. The Dolphins edged the Lady Chargers, 1-0 in nine innings in game one, while DC rallied to take game two, 8-0 in five innings.

The Dolphins edged the Lady Chargers, 1-0 in nine innings in game one, while DC rallied to take game two, 8-0 in five innings.
Game One: After eight scoreless innings, the top of the ninth saw the Dolphins begin the inning with a runner at second due to the international tie-breaker rule and Kelcie Cashel (Lacona, NY) led off the frame with a bunt single to move Sarah Vevante (Bethpage, NY) to third base. After Cashel stole second, Demetra Kermidas (Binghamton, NY) lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to drive in Vevante with the winning run.
Both teams were limited to just four hits in the game
Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) suffered the loss (4-3), scattering just four hits and striking out three batters.
Game Two: DC opened the scoring in the second inning as they plated two runs on two Dolphin errors. Catcher Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) led off the inning by reaching on an error by the third baseman and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With one out, Corrao moved to third on a passed ball andback-to-back walks to Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) and Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) loaded the bases for the Lady Chargers. An error by the shortstop allowed Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) to reach base and score both Corrao and Childers for a 2-0 lead.
Dominican extended their lead to 8-0 in the fourth after scoring six runs on four hits and four Dolphin errors. Junior Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ) drew a one-out walk and moved to second as the second basemen missed the tag which allowed Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) to reach first base. Freshman Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) hit an RBI single to left center to score Martinez and shortstop Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) then got on base with a bunt single and advanced to second on a Le Moyne error, which allowed Jeppson to score. Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA) delivered a two-run double down the left field line and Childers followed with a single to left to score Wassman and Coles later reached on an error to plate Childers for the 8-0 lead and eventual victory.
Childers picked up the shut out victory, scattering four hits and striking out five batters.
With the split Dominican now stands at 8-8 on the season.
