DOMINICAN'S BECK VOTED CACC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Five Other Players Named to All-CACC Teams

New Haven, CT (4/28/09) Sarah Beck of Dominican College has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Player of the Year, as the 2009 All-Conference team was released today. Georgian Court University sophomore Diana Sansevera was tabbed Pitcher of the Year, while fellow Lion Rachel Ruch claimed Rookie of the Year honors. Bloomfield College head coach Rocco Constantino picked up Coach of the Year accolades and Chestnut Hill College won the annual Team Sportsmanship Award. The 13 head coaches in the CACC conducted the voting. 

Teammates Nicole Scarillo and Cara Piasecki also earned All-CACC First Team honors, while Jamie Ollari, Deidre Jeppson and Katrina Pistilli were named to the All-CACC Second Team.

Beck, a senior outfielder from Milton, NY, broke the CACC single-season runs batted in record this season, with the conference tournament still to be played. She has knocked in 59 runs through 48 games. The previous record was 51, set last season by Caldwell College's Gina Capardi. She leads the team with a .441 batting average, a .727 slugging percentage, 71 hits, 17 doubles, 117 total bases and is second on the team and in the CACC with nine home runs. She leads the conference in hits, runs scored, total bases, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Beck and the Chargers are the top seed for the conference tournament after winning the CACC Regular-Season Championship with a 22-2 record in conference play.  She was also named the CACC Rookie of the Year, First Team All-CACC, All-CACC Tournament Team in 2006 and earned All-CACC First Team and Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Northeast Region First Team honors in 2008.

Scarillo, a sophomore catcher from South Amboy, NJ, is sporting a .374 batting average this season and is second on the team and in the CACC with a .676 slugging percentage.  She ranks first in home runs (11) in both the CACC and on the the team, second on the team and third in the CACC in RBIs (39) and fourth in the CACC in total bases (94).

P iasecki, a junior shortstop who hails from Port Monmouth, NJ, is currently second on the team with a .383 batting average.  She is third on the team and fourth in the CACC with 34 RBIs, third on the team and tied for fifth in the conference with seven home runs, second in the CACC and first on the team with 25 walks.  She was named to the All-CACC First Team and the All-CACC Tournament Team in 2007. 

 

Ollari, a senior first basemen from Hopatcong, NJ, also earned All-CACC Second Team honors last season and was also named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Northeast Region second Team.  She currently has a .345 batting average, a .479 slugging percentage and is second on the team with 14 doubles.

Jeppson, a rookie outfielder from Sylmar, CA, broke the CACC Single Season Stolen Base Record this year with a conference and team leading 21 stolen bases.   She is sporting a .355 batting average and a .458 slugging percentage.  She has tallied 59 hits and scored 41 runs this season.  Jeppson is third in the CACC in plate appearances (180) and first in stolen base attempts (25).

Pistilli, a freshman right-handed hurler from Staten Island, NY,is 18-5 this season with an ERA of 1.87.  In 146.1 innings of work she has 123 strikeouts, allowed 144 hits and has eight shut out victories this year with 18 complete games.  Opponents are hitting .254 against her and she has received CACC Rookie of the Week honors twice this season. 

 

Dominican led the way with six All-Conference picks, while Caldwell and Georgian Court each had five players voted to the team. All five of Caldwell's selections earned first team accolades.
