SOFTBALL ELIMINATED FROM CACC TOURNAMENT

Caldwell, NJ (5/2/08)  The Dominican College softball team was eliminated from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC)Softball Tournament this afternoon at Caldwell College. DC won their first game and eliminated #6 USP, 3-1, but lost to #4 Holy Family University, 3-1 to eliminate them from the tournament.

Game One: USP took a 1-0 lead in the first as they began the game with a lead off triple and the runner scored on wild pitch.

The Lady Chargers answered back with three runs in the second as catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) got things started by reaching base after getting hit by a pitch.  A sacrifice bunt by Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) moved her over to second and RBI single to right center by pitcher Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) brought her home.  With two one and two out, senior first basemen Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) doubled to center field to score two runs and give DC a 3-1 lead and eventual victory.

Garrison got the complete game win (8-6), allowing just one run on three hits.

Game two: The second game was scoreless until the Tigers broke through for three runs in the fifth inning on a two run double and passed ball to take a 3-0 lead.

DC got on the board in the bottom of the seventh as Scarillo got a lead off home run over the center field fence.  Ollari followed with a single through the left side, but the Holy Family University pitcher was able to retire the next three batters for the 3-1 victory and eliminating DC from the tournament.

Garrison took the loss (8-7) allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits and three strikeouts.

Dominican ends their season with an overall record of 30-24.
