LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL LOSES TWO ON THIRD DAY OF REBEL SPRING GAMES
Kissimmee, Fl (3/18/08) The Dominican College softball squad lost a double-header to Augustana College this afternoon on their third day of competition at the Rebel Spring Games. DC lost the first game 3-0 and the night cap, 12-7.
In game one, Augustana got on the board in the top of the second Allie Hubers singled to left to start off the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and game in to score on a DC error. The Vikings added two runs in the top of the sixth as Hubers hit a two run homer en route to the 3-0 victory.
Senior Christine States (Cornwall, NY) took the loss for DC, while Erin Bohlmann picked up the shut out win for the Vikings.
The Vikings then pounded out 16 hits in their 12-7 win in game two. Bohlmann, Rutherford and Traci Fransen all had 3 hits, while Hubers and Amber Bollman each had 2. Rutherford cranked 2 home runs and a double as she scored 4 times and drove in 3.
DC got on the board in the second inning as Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a fielder's choice and third on a sacrifice and game into score on a RBI single by Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ). Two more runs came in to score on back to back RBI singles by Kristine Knuth (Staten Island, NY) and Kristi Dillon (Staten Island, NY).
Th Lady Chargers added two more runs in the fifth as Lauren Galladay (Port Monmouth, NJ) singled to lead off the inning and later scored on the RBI walk to Knuth. Piasecki followed Galladay with a single and game in to score on the sacrifice fly to right by Dillon.
The final two runs for Dominican came in the seventh as back to back hits by Galladay and Piasecki put two on and Knuth's grounder to short allowed Galladay to score and Piasecki came in on a catching error by the Viking first basemen.
On the mound,
Mickey Anderson earned the win, while
Stathes suffered the loss.
