Lady Deacons Sweep Dominican

Bloomfield, NJ (4/24/07)  The Bloomfield College softball team (18-16, 12-8) swept a CACC doubleheader against Dominican College (16-18, 8-10) by the scores of 6-2 and 14-6. 
 
In game one Bloomfield right-hander Erin Covell (Milstone, NJ.) continued to dominate from inside the circle as she tossed her fourth consecutive complete game victory.  Covell went seven innings allowing two earned runs on seven its with one strike out, improving her record to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the CACC. 
 
The Chargers scored first in game one, in the top of the second Melanie Hestermann's (Lacey Township, NJ) sac-fly drove in Jackie Terpstra (Middletown, NJ) and gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead.  Bloomfield tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a sac-fly by Amanda Byrnes (Ringwood, NJ) that drove in Brianne Mooore (Clifton, NJ).  The game remained tied till the bottom of the fifth when BC struck for five runs on four hits.  The scoring began with a RBI single up the middle by Mallorie Mathews (Fair Lawn, NJ)
 
Fauna Ryerson (West Milford, NJ) drove in two more runs with a single down the left field line.  Dominique Russo (Clifton, NJ) tacked on the fourth run of the innings with a single through third base, then Byrnes got credit for her second RBI of the game after drawing a bases loaded walk, capping off the BC scoring and giving the Lady Deacons a commanding 6-1 lead.  Dominican threatened in the top of the seven with back to back doubles by Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) and Hesterman with two outs; but Covell shut the door getting Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) to ground out to end the game. 
 
Christine Stathes (Cornwall, NY) took the loss for Dominican working five full innings allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits with six strike outs.  Hestermann finished game one 2-for-2 with two RBI. 
Offensively for Bloomfield Mathews went 2-for-3 with a RBI; Ryerson was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Moore went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. 
 
Between games Bloomfield Honored its two seniors, Amanda Byrnes and Krystal Gonzalez (Jersey City, NJ).  It was Byrnes who carried the festivities over into game two with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first that sparked a six run rally, which also included a solo home run by Vickie Berardi (Linden, NJ) and a two run blast by Moore.
 
Dominican cut the lead in half at 6-3 with a three run second inning.  But Bloomfield rallied answered in the bottom half of the inning with three more runs, highlighted by Mallorie Mathews two run home run to center field.  Ollari's (Hopatcong, NJ) two run home run in the top of the third cut the lead to 9-5, then made it 9-6 in the top of the fourth on a solo homerun by Piasecki.  But the Bloomfield offense proved to be too much a quartet of Charger pitches as BC continued scored three times in the bottom of the fourth and twice in the bottom of the sixth. 
 
Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) took the loss for Dominican working just one and one-third innings allowing five earned runs on six hits.  Piasecki went 2-for-3 with a home run; Ollari went 1-for-2 with a home run and Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) went 2-for-4 with a run scored. 
 
Fauna Ryerson (8-8) got the win for Bloomfield working five innings, allwoing six runs (four earned) on eight hits with two strike outs.  Byrnes went 2-for-2 with a home run, and two RBI.  Berardi and Mathews both went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI and Dominique Russo went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI.
