HEAVEY'S HAT TRICK LIFTS DOMINICAN OVER CALDWELL
Orangeburg, NY (10/29/09) Sophomore midfielder Alan Heavey (Huntington Station, NY) recorded his first collegiate hat trick in leading the Chargers past the visiting Cougars from Caldwell College, 3-0 this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at the DC Soccer Field.
Heavey's first goal came at the 8:24 mark as he headed the ball into the lower right corner of the net off a nice cross from senior forward Joe Wright (Stratford-Upon-Avon, England).
At 29:20, Heavey recorded his second goal on a shot from the two yard line off Wright's second assist of the game to give DC a 2-0 lead at the half.
Heavey ended the scoring run at 58:17 as he rocketed a shot from the 18 yard line past the Cougar keeper for the 3-0 Charger victory.
Dominican outshot Caldwell, 13-7, while both teams were even with two corner kicks each.
Charger keeper Brandon Heembrock (Ottawa, Canada) made two saves in the victory.
Cougar goalie John Londono (West New York, NJ) also had two saves.
With the victory Dominican improves to 13-2-2 overall and 8-2-1 in the CACC, while Caldwell falls to 3-10-1 overall and 3-6 in the CACC.
Before the game the Chargers honored seniors James Hamilton (Paisley, Scotland), Dan Kelly (Massapequa, NY), Shane Lowe (Hyde Park, NY) and Wright. The team also acknowledged senior team manager Megan Bryant.
DC is back in action on Monday in the quarter-finals of the CACC Tournament. DC will host an opponent for a 2pm game at the DC Soccer Field.
