Rutherford, NJ (9/20/07) Felician College became the fifth shutout victim in 2007 of visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College in the Golden Falcons' 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer loss on Thursday afternoon at Tryon Field. Dominican (5-1-4, 3-0-1) is ranked fourth in the latest Division II New England Regional coaches' poll.
The Chargers' leading scorer, Jhonny Arteaga (Stamford, CT) had goals in the sixth and 35th minutes to give his team a 2-0 halftime lead. Dominican was able to limit Felician's first-half chances with a 11-5 shot advantage and by holding the Golden Falcons without a corner kick for the period.
The second half was more evenly played, but for the day, Felician (0-7-2, 0-1-1) was only able to put four of its 14 shots on goal. Shane Lowe (Hyde Park, NY) sealed the victory for the Chargers, scoring on a header with 9:48 left in regulation. Goalkeeper Robert Kelly (Kearny, NJ) earned the shutout with four saves.
Boris Shabovta (Manalapan, NJ) led the Golden Falcons with four shots and Paulo DosSantos (Toronto, Ontario) was credited with four saves.
The Chargers are back in action on Tuesday, September 25th when
they travel to Southern Connecticut State University in a
non-conference game. Game time is 7pm.
