DOMINICAN EARNS TOP SEED AT 2005 CACC MEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT
NEW HAVEN Dominican College, the top-ranked team in the New England Region and eighth-ranked squad in the nation, has secured the top seed for the 2005 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) mens soccer tournament, which will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The Chargers compiled a perfect 8-0 conference record to go with a 16-1 overall slate this season.
Caldwell College, which went 7-1 in conference play and 11-4-1 overall this season, is the second seed. Both Dominican, the 2004 tournament champion, and Caldwell received byes in the first round for finishing first and second in the regular-season standings.
The rest of the field includes #3 Felician College (5-9-2, 5-3 CACC), which moved up the standings with a 5-1 mark over its final six conference contests, #4 Nyack College (9-5-2, 4-2-2), #5 Post University (8-9, 3-5) and #6 Wilmington College (5-10-2, 2-4-2).
The Eagles gained a berth in dramatic fashion against Holy Family University on Saturday, as Post scored the game-winning goal with just 15 seconds left to play in a game where the winner earned a spot in the tournament.
The first round kicks off on Tuesday when Wilmington visits Felician and Post travels to Nyack. Both games will begin at 2:00 pm.
