MEN'S LACROSSE LOSES TO ROBERTS WESLEYAN COLLEG
Hillburn, N.Y. (3/22/14) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team lost an East Coast Conference (ECC) game to the visiting Redhawks from Roberts Weslyan College, 17-7, this evening in a game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
With the loss, Dominican falls to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Midfielder Hunter Curran (Virginia Beach, Va.) tied the game at 1-1 with 1:35 left in the first quarter as he tallied his fifth goal of the season off the assist from Theodore Wright (Copiague, N.Y.).
Attacker Tanner Olsen (Chilliwack, Canada) made the score 4-2 in the second quarter on an unassisted goal with 12:41 left before the half and senior Sean McGregor (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) scored his fourth goal of the year with just over six minutes left to make the score 7-3 at the break.
RWC scored the first four goals of the third quarter, three of them coming off of man-up opportunities to pull awah 11-3. McGregor scored his second goal of the game with 5:13 to go in the third and Olsen scored his with under a minute left to cut the deficit to 13-5 at the end of three quarters of play.
In the fourth quarter, the Redhawks went on a 3-0 run before senior Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, N.Y.) netted his ninth goal of the season off the assist from Sean Driscoll (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Driscoll ended the scoring with a goal of his own for the final 17-7 score.
Goalie Matthew Quinones* (Nanuet, N.Y.) made 14 saves in the loss.
