MEN'S LACROSSE UPENDED BY PACE UNIVERSITY

(3/4/13) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team opened up the 2013 season with a non-conference loss to the visiting Setters of Pace University, 15-7, this afternoon in a game played at the Torne Valley Sports Complex. With the loss, the Chargers now stand at 0-1 overall while the Setters improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Setters scored the first 11 goals of the contest spanning the first quarter and midway through the second. Dominican got on the board with 6:10 left in the first half as freshman attacker Joseph Ravenell (Copiague, N.Y.) recorded his first collegiate goal and Pace closed out the half with two more goals for a 13-1 lead.
Ravenell tallied his second game goal to start the scoring in the third quarter to make the score 13-2 and the Setters once again answered back with back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 15-2. Senior midfielder Daniel Steigert (Copiague, N.Y.) closed out the quarter with his first goal of the year off the assist from Ravenell to make the score 15-3 after three quarters.
Dominican recorded all of the scoring in the final quarter as Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, N.Y.) scored his first goall of the first collegiate assist awarded to Jusstin Ruffin (Amityville, N.Y.). Sophomore Nicholas Capano (Troy, N.Y.) followed with a goal off the pass from Ravenell and Ravenell followed with his third goal of the game with 4:01 remaining. Dertinger ended the scoring with a goal off the pass from Capano for the final 15-7 score.
The Chargers were led offensively by Ravenell who finished with three goals and two assists for a total of two points.
Matthew Quinones (Nanuet, N.Y.) played almost 26 minutes in goal, making six saves and allowing five goals. Christopher Longo (Somers, N.Y.) allowed eight goals and made four savies in 15 minutes, while Andrew Slater (Brookfield, Conn.) had four saves in 19 minutes of action.
DC is back in action on Wednesday, March 13th as they host Franklin Pierce University at the Torne Valley Sports Complex.
