Greensburg, PA (5/6/12) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team ended the 2012 season with a loss to host, #8 Seton Hill University, 24-6 this afternoon in East Coast Conference (ECC) action. With the loss, Dominican ends the season with an overall record of 1-12 and an 0-9 record in the ECC.
The Griffins opened up an early 3-0 lead when sophomore midfielder Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, NY) netted his first of three game goals off the assist from Korin Pierce (Middleburg, VA) to cut the deficit to 3-1 with 7:04 left in the first quarter.
SHU then went on a 10-0 run that went through the rest of the first quarter and the first four and a half minutes of the second quarter. Dertinger netted his second goal, this one an unassisted goal with just under 11 minutes to go before halftime. With 9:11 left in the second quarter, Pierce scored his 12th goal of the season after the pass from Nicholas Capano (Troy, NY) to make the score, 14-3.
A 6-0 Griffin run made the score 20-3 with 4:33 to go in the third quarter. Dertinger completed the hat trick with his team leading 23rd goal of the season with 3:34 remaining in the third quarter. SHU closed out the game with another 6-0 run for the final 26-4 score.
Junior goalie Andrew Slater (Brookfield, CT) made 10 saves in the loss.
Today was the final game for seniors Korin Pierce and Matthew Brown.
